Christopher Burpee is a Lighting Designer and Technical Director, based on the north side of Chicago.


Christopher has a BFA in Lighting Design from The Theatre School at DePaul University.  He designs for theatre, dance, opera, concerts, and events.  Chris has designed for many great theatre companies, including Redtwist, NightBlue, Bohemian Ensemble, Tooth & Nail, Diciples of Clyde, and Mythic Proportions.

When he isn't designing professional productions, Christopher designs many community and educational productions.  He has designed for Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Northwestern University, College of Lake County, DePaul University, Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts), Plainfield South High School, and Guerin Prep HS.

Chris also works as a Master Electrician, Lighting Technician, and Electrician on a freelance basis, and for several companies.  Chris has worked for PRG, Windy City Music, Barbizon, Protolight, Freeman, Chicago Stagehand, Museum Of Contemporary Art, Chamber Opera Chicago, Dance Chicago, Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre, Next Theatre, Profiles Theatre, Redmoon Theatre, Greasy Joan & Company, Northshore Center for the Performing Arts, Northbrook Park District, About Face, and many more.

Technical Direction

From December 2012 - February 2015, Chris worked at Northeastern Illinois University, where he served as the fulltime Technical Director.  Chris oversaw the setup and operation of 9 meeting rooms, 1 large event hall, a recital hall, and a large auditorium.  Overseeing a staff of 21 in the Production Technical Services team, we hosted, setup, and operated over 12,500 meetings, events, and productions per year.

Technical Services Manager

Chris can now be found working, by day, as the Technical Services Manager at Northwestern University.  Chris trains and oversees a staff of 30 student employees, to setup and support the technology for over 14,000 meetings and events per year.
